WolfNPC

Bring your land to life.

Turn your own WolfAvatars into characters that live on your region: a greeter at the landing point, a pack of wolves roaming the hills, a bartender and the regulars at your pub, a whole living town. They walk, sit, rest and react for free – and with AI switched on they chat with visitors and with each other.

Open Wolf World > WolfNPC… in WolfStorm, our web viewer, or in WolfViewer from the Dragon Fire release. Each Wolf Territories region gets WolfNPC when it restarts onto the 24 October 2026 update; most already have it.

What you get

  • Characters made from your own WolfAvatars people and animals
  • They stroll, roam, sit on free seats, rest, sniff about and howl at night – free, no AI needed
  • Packs that go about together, and ready-made scenes that set a whole group up for you
  • AI talk on your Wolf Credits, with the cost shown before anything is charged
  • Characters that learn what you teach them and look up what they don’t know
  • Animal noises – barks, meows, purrs, howls – free, heard within 25 m
  • Optional games: quests, traders, zombies and predators for players in Game Mode
  • Dragons that breathe fire and ice

A character is an ordinary object on your land, so it counts towards the parcel’s prims like anything else. While nobody is within 96 m of it, it sleeps and uses nothing at all.

Make a greeter in 3 clicks

Stand where you want it, open Wolf World > WolfNPC… and press New NPC.

  1. Choose a WolfAvatar

Use my avatar picks one of the WolfAvatars people or animals you have made. Create a new one opens WolfAvatars (it shows the price first) and comes back here when it is made.

  2. Say what it says

Give it a name and a line such as “Welcome to my land!” – said once a visit to anyone who comes within 8 m. Leave it empty for a quiet one, or give it a personality instead to let it talk with AI.

  3. Rez

It appears 2 m in front of you, facing you, and gets on with its life. More options covers what it does, where it goes, its pack, the game, a vehicle and a voice.

Good to know

  • You can make characters where you own the region, are one of its estate managers, or own the parcel. A region holds up to 20.
  • The On this region list shows everyone’s characters. Yours have Edit…, Pause, Call home, Make here its home, Rename and Delete.
  • Edit it for its settings, its animations (its own first, then the standard ones), named Places it goes to, and Reactions: “when someone comes within 10 m, wave and say hello”.
  • People can have a job, a daily routine and named places to go. Animals roam, stay, guard or follow you.

Packs and ready-made scenes

Give characters the same pack name and they go about together: followers keep loosely behind the leader, rest together, scatter when attacked and regroup. Or open the Scenes tab and let a scene set a whole group up. You place each one yourself – stand there, press Rez – choosing one of your own WolfAvatars for it. AI talk is off in every scene until you switch it on.

  • Wolf sanctuary

Two or three packs of different wolves, each keeping to its own range. Shy of people but friendly; they rest, sniff about and howl at night. No game: they never hunt and cannot be hunted.

  • Wolf woods pack: Game Mode only

The Moonfang pack hunts players of your region’s game together and can be hunted back, while a lone friendly wolf wanders nearby, curious about visitors.

  • Storytellers’ pub

An old storyteller by the fire who tells traditional tales, recommends one and answers questions about them, and a bartender if you want one.

  • Living town

A shopkeeper at the counter, a bartender behind the bar and townsfolk strolling the streets, each with a daily routine. Mark the market and the tavern as Places and they go there through the day.

  • Classroom

A teacher who explains maths and English grammar step by step on a whiteboard you own, works examples, asks questions and checks the answers.

  • Haunted house

Restless ghosts drift through your house, creep up on visitors and whisper at them.

  • Zombie outbreak Game Mode only

A shambling horde roams your land and one survivor warns visitors to keep their voices down. The zombies hunt players of your region’s game and can be fought; anyone else is only growled at.

AI talk, and what it costs

Switch on AI talk and give a character a personality of up to 1,000 characters – “A grumpy old bartender who loves gossip” – and it answers people in character. It answers anyone who says its name in local chat within 20 m, or who talks to it standing within 4 m. Choose written replies, or a spoken voice (a voice reply costs more).

  • You pay, never your visitors. Every reply comes out of the character owner’s Wolf Credits – not the person talking to it, and not the region’s owner.
  • You see the cost first. The window shows about how many credits a reply costs, and an estimate of a month, before you switch it on. The price is what the AI provider charges us, plus 10%.
  • No AI when nobody is near. With no real person close by, a character asks no AI and spends nothing – an empty region costs nothing.
  • Set a daily limit for each character. It goes quiet when the limit or your credits run out.
  • Press See my AI costs in the window, or open My AI Costs (when logged in), to see what each character has spent.

Characters who talk to each other

Put a few AI characters together – a barman and his regulars – and they know who else is there. Ask the regular for a pint and he passes it on to the barman by name, and the barman answers you. Now and then they share a word between themselves, as people in a pub do.

  • They talk among themselves only while a real person is within 20 m to hear it – never to an empty room.
  • Each keeps to its own role: the storyteller never pours the drinks.
  • Their chatter is paced – at most eight exchanges an hour for a group, and less often while nobody is talking to them – and each reply is charged like any other.
  • They greet newcomers naturally, and welcome back people they have met before.

Characters that learn

Knowledge plus skills: a character remembers what it is told and knows how to do things. Open its Learning tab.

  1. Knowledge

Choose how it learns from talk: Off, Ask me first (what it learns waits for you to approve) or Automatic. Teach it facts yourself, edit or delete anything it knows, or make it forget everything.

  2. “I don’t know” – so it looks it up

Tick It may look things up on the web when it does not know (off unless you switch it on). Asked something it cannot answer, it says it will find out, looks it up and tells them – and keeps the fact with its web source. Each look-up costs Wolf Credits; at most 20 a day.

  3. Read up on a topic

Give it a topic and it learns from the web in its own words. You see the price first – it is never charged more than that – and what it learns waits for you on the Knowledge tab unless its learning is Automatic.

  4. Skills

A skill is a short list of steps – go to the bar, play an animation, say a line, hand over an item. Make your own, find one in the shared library (reviewed by Wolf Territories staff), and see what people asked it to do that it cannot do yet.

Who is in charge

The region decides who may give a character orders: you (its owner), the region’s owner and estate managers, and the owner of the parcel under its home. Say its name and one of these in local chat – free, no AI:

follow me stay stay here go home stop come here

With AI on, you can also change some of its settings just by asking, and it checks with you before anything risky. Visitors can chat with it, but cannot tell it what to do. Only its owner changes its personality, AI and spending.

Games are optional

Nothing in WolfNPC needs a game. If your region runs the Wolf Roleplay game and it is yours, your characters can join in: give quests, offer dialogue choices, trade, be hunted, and hunt.

  • A character only ever attacks players of the region’s game in Game Mode, or someone who attacked it – never anyone else, and never on land marked safe.
  • Tick Game Mode only and only people playing in Game Mode can talk to or play with that character; everyone else just sees it. Zombies and predators are made for this.
  • The Game Master tab lets you take control of a character: walk it, make it speak, start an event. Press Release to give it back its own life.

Worn pets

A worn pet is one of your WolfAvatars animals made into something you wear, such as “Timber (wear me)” in Objects > WolfPets. Choose Add and it walks beside you everywhere you go – through every teleport, across the whole grid. It is free: no AI, no credits.

  • It walks when you walk, runs when you run and sits when you sit. Stand still and it sits after a while, then lies down; now and then it sniffs, scratches, stretches or wags its tail.
  • Touch it for its menu: Sit, Lie down, Follow me, Noises off or on with a volume, and Position – left side, right side or behind, nearer or further, higher or lower.
  • It makes its own animal noises, and when someone else strokes it, it wags its tail.
  • A button to make your own from the WolfNPC window is on its way.

Dragons breathe fire and ice

Every dragon made in WolfAvatars now comes with “… breath (wear me)”, worn at the mouth. Wear it with your dragon’s HUD and press Breath…: Breathe fire, Breathe ice, Keep fire, Keep ice or Stop breath. Everyone nearby sees the flames, embers and smoke, or the frost, crystals and mist, and hears it.

  • In a region’s game, players caught in the breath lose health when you are playing too, and ice slows them for a moment. Anyone not playing only sees it, and nobody is hurt on safe land.
  • A WolfNPC dragon breathes too: from a reaction, its own script, a skill, when its owner asks, or while hunting players of the game.
  • It works on regions that have restarted onto the 24 October 2026 update; on others the HUD says it needs a region update.

AI characters keep it clean

Light-hearted flirting and banter are fine. Nothing sexual – anywhere on the grid, adult regions included, with no setting to turn it off. A new personality, skill or line is checked before it is used, and characters steer away from anything sexual. You are responsible for the characters you create and what you teach them. See section 8 of our terms.

For scripters

Drop a script into a character’s Contents and it can drive everything the window does, for example wolfNPC("SAY", "Hello"), read it with wolfNPCInfo("STATE"), and hear its reactions through link_message number -7600100.
